Elizabeth Gilbert

Tonight, Elizabeth Gilbert appeared with Annie LaMott in San Rafael in support of her phenomenally successful book 'Eat Pray Love.' It was such a delight to get a glimpse of her in the flesh, after devouring the novel last Fall. And she was true to form: her stories were all relevant, insightful and spun with comedic brilliance. Loved every fabulous moment, particularly her thoughts on the need for childless women in our society (her term: 'sparents' ; ) because such 'heroic aunties' have the energy and resources to fill in the gaps around the edges. I didn't get to buy her a cuppa (or a tequila shot, as I'd hoped), but it was great fun to connect with her for a moment and photograph her. Psst - she has 'courage' and 'compassion' tattooed on the inside of her forearms in cursive script and white ink. I'm not much of a body art connoisseur, but they were stunning. Just in: Julia Roberts is on board for the film adaptation of 'Eat Pray Love' and while I would have preferred Laura Linney in the role, I'll still catch the film. Can't get enough of Elizabeth!
